Why do people near the beach choose vinyl?
Salt air eats bare steel and dries out wood. Vinyl has nothing to rust and nothing to rot, so the panels hold up well in Belmont Shore, Naples and the other blocks close to the water. The parts to watch are the metal pieces: hinges, latches and screws. We use hardware rated for outdoor and coastal use. More in our salt air guide.
What vinyl styles can you install?
- Full privacy: solid panels, usually 6 feet tall, for backyards.
- Privacy with lattice top: a softer look that still blocks the view.
- Semi-privacy: small gaps between boards let air through.
- Picket and ranch rail: low and open for front yards and borders.
Does vinyl hold up to wind and sun?
A solid privacy panel catches the wind like a sail, so post depth, concrete and spacing matter. We set posts in concrete and add stiffeners where a fence or gate needs them. Strong sun can fade darker colors over time, which is one reason white and tan stay popular.
What does a vinyl fence cost?
As of October 2026, Angi's national cost guide lists vinyl at about $15 to $40 per linear foot installed. Taller panels, decorative tops and gates cost more. We measure first and put the price in writing. See fence costs in Long Beach.
How do I take care of a vinyl fence?
Rinse it with a hose a few times a year and wash off spots with mild soap and water. Near the coast, rinsing also clears salt off the hinges and latches. Keep sprinklers with hard water from hitting it all day, or it can spot.
Is vinyl better than wood?
It depends on what you care about. Vinyl usually costs more up front but needs far less care. Wood costs less to start, is easy to patch and can be stained any color. If budget is the main thing, compare with wood fences or chain link. If you need a gate in your vinyl fence, see gates.
