What fence work do Lakewood homes usually need?
Much of Lakewood was built in the early 1950s as one large planned neighborhood, so many streets have similar single-story homes on similar lots. That means a lot of the same jobs come up again and again:
- Replacing a tired wood fence along the back and side property lines.
- Rebuilding the side gate by the driveway that sags or won't latch.
- Adding a low front-yard fence to keep kids or a dog close to the house.
- Swapping chain link for wood or vinyl for more privacy.
Do I have to talk to my neighbors first?
On lots this close together, almost every backyard fence is shared. Under California law, neighbors are presumed to split the reasonable cost of a boundary fence, and the owner starting the project must give 30 days' written notice. We're happy to walk the line with both of you. Read who pays for a fence between neighbors.
Is salt air a concern in Lakewood?
Less than in Belmont Shore or Seal Beach. Lakewood is inland enough that wood fences and standard galvanized hardware usually do fine, so you can choose on looks and budget. Sun and sprinklers are the bigger enemies here: keep water off the boards and restain when the color fades.
What are the fence rules in Lakewood?
Lakewood is its own city with its own zoning code, separate from Long Beach. Height limits and front-yard rules may differ from what your friends in Long Beach were told. We check the City of Lakewood's current rules for your address before we finalize a design.
