What commercial fences do you install?
- Chain link: heavy-gauge mesh, with privacy slats if you want to screen the yard.
- Ornamental steel or aluminum: secure without looking like a cage, good for storefronts and apartment buildings.
- Rolling and swing gates: wide openings for trucks, with room to add an automatic opener.
How tall can a commercial fence be in Long Beach?
The Long Beach zoning code generally allows commercial and industrial fences up to 8 feet where they back onto a residential side or rear yard, and up to 12 feet in other yards. Front setbacks and corner visibility areas have lower limits. The Planning Bureau reviews every fence's location, height and material.
Do I need engineered plans?
For fences over 6 feet 6 inches, yes. The City of Long Beach says commercial properties need engineered drawings and line surveys for fences above that height, reviewed at the Development Permit Center. Automatic gates or lighting may also need an electrical permit. We'll tell you what your site needs before we quote.
Can I put barbed wire on top?
Only in some zones. Long Beach prohibits barbed wire and similar sharp-topped fencing, except in its IM, IG and IP industrial zones when it sits on top of a fence more than 6 feet tall. Decorative wrought iron isn't covered by that ban. If you're outside those zones, we'll suggest other ways to make the fence hard to climb.
What does commercial fencing cost?
It depends on the length, height, gauge, gates and any engineering. We don't post a number for commercial work because two lots rarely match. Send the address and a short description and we'll come out, measure and price it in writing. For homes, see residential fence costs.
Does salt air matter for my business fence?
Near the port and the coast, yes. Vinyl-coated chain link and powder-coated aluminum hold up better than bare steel. See the salt air guide, or compare chain link and iron and aluminum.
