What does each fence material cost per foot?

These are Angi's national installed ranges, checked in October 2026. They are wide on purpose: the low end is a simple, short, low fence and the high end is a tall, custom one.

What do gates add?

As of October 2026, Angi lists side gates at about $400 to $1,200 each, depending on material. Automatic driveway gates often run a few thousand dollars. More on our gates page.

Why is Los Angeles-area pricing higher than the national average?

Angi's national typical range is about $1,856 to $4,750. Its Los Angeles range sits above that, at about $2,000 to $5,400, because labor and materials cost more in higher-cost regions.

What makes a Long Beach fence cost more or less?

  • Length: the biggest factor. More feet means more posts, panels and labor.
  • Height: a 6-foot privacy fence uses more material than a 3-foot front fence. In Long Beach, residential fences over 6 feet 6 inches need engineering drawings or installation instructions.
  • Gates: each one adds hardware, a heavier post and labor.
  • Old fence removal: tearing out and hauling away an old fence adds time.
  • Ground: roots, old concrete footings and slopes (common in Signal Hill) take longer to dig.
  • Coastal hardware: stainless or heavy galvanized hardware near the beach costs a bit more but lasts. See salt air fences.
  • Sharing the cost: on a boundary fence, your neighbor may owe half. See who pays for a fence between neighbors.

So what will my fence cost?

It depends. A short run of chain link behind a garage and a long cedar privacy fence with a double driveway gate can be thousands of dollars apart. Online ranges are a starting point, not a quote. The only fair number comes from measuring your yard.
